What happens when you call
-
Tell us what happened. 30 seconds - what burned and whether the home is secure.
-
You're connected with a local restoration crew while you're on the line.
-
The crew confirms timing and your arrival time - board-up comes first if the house is open.
What Los Angeles crews handle
What's different in Los Angeles?
Much of LA's housing stock predates 1970 - original galvanized and cast-iron lines corrode and fail behind walls, and slab leaks are routine in post-war neighborhoods. Atmospheric-river storms overwhelm hillside drainage in a single weekend, and seismic movement quietly works plumbing joints loose between the storms.
California policies cover sudden water damage, but pipe breaks caused by an earthquake need separate earthquake coverage, and mold remediation is often capped unless it stems from a covered sudden loss.
Your call goes to a crew based in the Los Angeles area. Serving Los Angeles, Long Beach, Glendale, Pasadena, Torrance, Inglewood, and all of LA County.
What to know before repairs in Los Angeles
Inside city limits, LADBS lists fire damage repair to homes, up to 10% of the building's replacement cost, as an express permit with no plan check; larger repairs go through plan check. LADBS requires a Class A roof covering for re-roofing in a Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone, so check your address before matching an old roof. In flood hazard areas, the city's substantial-damage test covers damage of any origin, including fire. If your home is in an HPOZ, exterior repairs also need City Planning approval. The January 2025 Eaton fire burned in Altadena and Pasadena, outside LADBS jurisdiction.
Common questions
Can we stay in the house?
Depends on smoke spread and structural safety - the crew tells you straight after inspection. If you can't, most policies pay for temporary housing (loss-of-use coverage).
Is fire damage covered by insurance?
Typically yes. Fire is a core homeowner's peril, and coverage usually includes smoke damage, water from firefighting, board-up, and rebuilding, subject to your limits and deductible - check your declarations page for those. Ask the contractor about documentation and coordination with your adjuster.
Should I start cleaning up myself?
It's best to wait on soot cleanup. Wiping soot the wrong way can drive it deeper, and moving debris before photos may reduce what your claim can show. Waiting on cleanup doesn't mean delaying safe steps to prevent further damage, like board-up or tarping once it's safe. Photograph first.
