What Tampa crews handle
What's different in Tampa?
Tampa runs on daily summer thunderstorms and the hurricane cone - wind-driven rain through soffits and sliders, storm surge in the flood zones, and a water table that gives runoff nowhere to go. The CBS slab housing stock hides supply lines under concrete, and in this humidity wet drywall starts growing mold in 24 to 48 hours.
Florida requires mold remediators to hold a state DBPR mold remediation license. Ask for the license number before work starts.
Florida policies may have a separate hurricane deductible. Whether it applies depends on the storm and the statutory hurricane period. Check your policy. Storm surge is flood insurance, not homeowner's, no matter what the hurricane did above the waterline. Everyday failures use your standard deductible.
Your call goes to a crew based in the Tampa area. Serving Tampa, St. Petersburg, Clearwater, Brandon, Riverview, Largo, and all of Hillsborough County.
What to know before repairs in Tampa
Florida's mold licensing law covers only jobs with more than 10 square feet of growth, so small spots fall outside it. Above that, an assessor and a remediator each need a DBPR license, with exemptions: you may assess or clean your own home, and some other state licensees and people acting for an insurer may do the work as long as they do not hold themselves out as mold assessors or remediators. Florida also separates testing from cleanup. A licensed assessor may not remediate a structure its company assessed in the past 12 months, and a remediator may not assess one it remediated, unless it is a certified Division I contractor. Before work starts, ask in writing what post-remediation testing, if any, is included. Verify both licenses on DBPR's license search, and send complaints to DBPR's Division of Regulation.
Common questions
Should I test first or go straight to removal?
If mold is visible and the moisture source is obvious, go straight to remediation. Test first when mold is hidden, symptoms don't match what you can see, or you need documentation for a claim.
Is mold really that dangerous?
It's a health concern worth taking seriously - especially for kids, older adults, and anyone with asthma or allergies. Removal ends the exposure either way.
Is mold remediation covered by insurance?
Mold remediation may be covered when the mold resulted from a covered sudden water loss, often up to a separate limit. Coverage depends on the cause and your policy's mold exclusions, endorsements and limits. A covered water loss does not automatically establish coverage for mold remediation. Check your declarations page for any mold limit.
